I'm all for protecting our nation from terrorism, but do we have to kill our civil liberties in order to save them? Using vague generalities to justify expanding the USA PATRIOT Act hardly inspires confidence in Chairman Ashcroft's commitment to civil liberties.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Director of Homeland Insecurity Tom Ridge is worried about the credibility of the Terror Alert System. Really? Was it the innumerable parodies out on the Internet that clued him in? Or perhaps it was the fact that virtually no one takes it seriously??
