The 2000th American soldier to die in Our Glorious Leader’s immoral, illegal war of occupation in Iraq died this week. Two thousand may be just a number to some, but each of the 2000 left behind friends, famillies, wives, children- a myriad of people touched by each and every life lost. It would be one thing if the war in Iraq could be justified as a war to punish those responsible for 9.11, like the war in Afghanistan, for example. The fact of the matter is nothing could be further from the truth.
The problem with Iraq is that, despite Our Glorious Leader’s assertion to the contrary, Iraq is not a war against terrorism. There WAS no terrorist threat in Iraq until we invaded and created our own insurgency. Neither is it a war against a country that was on the verge of producing, perhaps even using, weapons of mass destruction. No WMDs have EVER been found. So what, really, is this war about? What have 2000 Americans died for? So many have died so young, and for a cause that no one can reasonably define. Protecting our freedom? How does ANYTHING currently happening in Iraq, a half a world away, endanger our security? Fighting terrorism? Our Glorious Leader’s Iraq policy is responsible for CREATING the terrorist threat that now exists in Iraq. Defending democracy? More like ensuring that Iraq has a pliable government friendly to American oil interests.
How many children will be growing up without fathers? How many wives have lost their husbands? How many parents have lost their sons or daughters? It would be nice to at least be able to feel that those who died gave their lives while protecting the safety and security of the Homeland. Would that I could delude myself into believing that. No, the sad reality is that the war in Iraq has no justification, no raison d’ etre, nothing that meets the conventional test used to define a “just war”. This was was sold to us as a search to locate and eliminate weapons of mass destruction- none of which have EVER been found, because as we now know, they never existed to begin with- and Bush knew it.
Our Glorious Leader and his cronies manipulated intelligence, fudged evidence, and just plain lied to the American people in order to get the war in Iraq he so desperately wanted. The steady parade of lies and deceptions even enticed me to go along with the invasion of Iraq- to my everlasting shame. Fool me once….
Congress impeached Bill Clinton for getting his pole greased by an intern and then lying about it. Of course, he was a Democrat, so he deserved it, eh? George W. Bush lied his way into a war in Iraq that has thus far killed 2000 American soldiers, and Congress is still treating him like some sort of freakin’ hero. Hmm…a stained blue dress or the war in Iraq? Which one do YOU find easier to swallow?
Yes, it would appear that what I’ve said repeatedly is all too true: being a Republican means never having to say you’re sorry…or be held accountable. If ANYONE should be impeached, it should be Our Glorious Leader and the rest of the cabal responsible for employing a battery of lies and deceptions to sell the war in Iraq to the unsuspecting and spectacularly undemanding American public. If lying is a crime, and if a sitting President can be impeached for lying about an affair with an intern, a sitting President should certainly expect to be impeached for being responsible for the deaths of 2000 Americans (and counting).
WE DESERVE BETTER. Not that we’re ever going to get it, of course….
