Celebrating the "best" of the "worst"

Yes, Virginia, there really is a John Gibson. Now get the hell away from him.

No one who was paying attention this year could argue with the fact that 2005 produced a bumper crop of wingnuttery. From John Gibson to Ann Coulter to Bill O’Reilly to Michelle Malkin and points beyond, 2005 produced a bonanza of silly, self-absorbed, insensitive lunacy. Where to begin? It’s almost overwhelming.

Rather than try to make sense of the idiocy myself, I’ll defer to The Poor Man, who has done a bang-up job of sorting the wingnuts to find the creme de la creme of ignorant, self-absorbed demagoguery. Yes, when you’re finished with the Top 10 Funniest Video Clips, The 25 Dumbest Media Quotes of 2005, and 2005’s Worst Person In The World Award, check out TPM’s collection of wingnuts par excellence. Right-wing lunacy: The Gift That Keeps On Giving, eh??

Of course, the sad part of this reality is that trolls have a forum, though they clearly have little of any moral or intellectual value to add to the general public discussion about the state of our nation. No, clearly it’s SO much easier to start flame wars, cast insults, and berate those you disagree with as Anti-American, Pro-Terrorist, and Anti-Patriotic. It would seem that there is no crime so unforgivable in the eyes of a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative Wingnut to display insufficient flag-waving fervor.

Party on, Garth…here’s to 2006, which only promises to produce more rich, creamy Wingnut goodness….
