At halftime, it was 42-3, I was hoping that someone would figure out that perhaps there should be a football version of Little League Baseball’s ten-run rule. By the end of the third quarter, it was 70-3. Almost from the opening kickoff, even the most disinterested observer could tell that this one was going to get ugly early and stay that way throughout. The only question was weather the Longhorns would hang 90 on a not-terrible Colorado team. After all, this game was for the Big 12 Championship, and while Colorado was exactly frightening at 7-4, they hardly seemed like blowout material, even considering what Texas did to them earlier in the season .
It was one of those games when I found myself hoping that the officials would involve the college football equivalent of the ten-run rule. Colorado might not be in Texas’ class, but 70-3?? And to think I almost bought tickets for this disemboweling….
After USC dismantled a very good (9-1 going in) UCLA team 66-19, can there be any doubt who belongs in the Rose Bowl? Finally, the NCAA gets it right.
