It would be so much easier if y'all remembered to act like second-class citizens

Conservatives see no place for gay pride at Easter event: Activists accused of trying to ‘crash’ the White House’s egg roll festivities

Jeez, things would be so much easier if you members of Da Gayz would just remember your place, eh? You know, accept your God-ordained status as second-class citizens, defer to Christians and their hateful judgementalism. Oh, and when we celebrate “family”, remember that “family” means the nuclear variety- you know, one man, one woman, and their children. Y’all aren’t welcome, and your children? Well, they’re headed for Hell, anyway….

More than anything else, though, keep in mind that when Our Glorious Leader and his Evangelical supporters celebrate a secular Easter ritual designed for children, your children are not welcome. Why? Because as the children of a same-sex relationship, they are just as sinful and worthy of damnation as you. So, just be good boys and remember that God doesn’t love you as much as he does us. The sooner you get that straight, the better off we’ll all be.

NEW YORK - Three months before the annual Easter egg roll at the White House, the usually festive event is taking on a divisive edge because of plans by gay- and lesbian-led families to turn out en masse in hopes of raising their public profile.

The Family Pride Coalition and other organizers envision the April 17 action as a celebration that will earn good will and showcase their families engaging in the annual tradition.

“It’s important for our families to be seen participating in all aspects of American life,” said Family Pride executive director Jennifer Chrisler.

And why not? Why should these folks accept their status as second-class citizens simply because a group of narrow-minded hatemongers use their bastardized version of Christianity to oppress a class of people that’s absolutely no threat to them. No one is expecting Fundamentalist Christians to embrace homosexuality or those who live that lifestyle, but would it be too much to hope for a little bit of Christian charity? Apparently so.

Yet some conservatives, alerted to the plans this week, accuse gay activists of trying to “crash” an event for children and turn it into forum for ideological politicking. Some groups are discussing ways to respond.

Right…because if we’re not free to teach our children that it’s OK to hate and marginalize those who are different, you might as well just take away our ability to parent.

“It’s improper to use the egg roll for political purposes,” said Mark Tooley of the conservative Institute on Religion and Democracy. Tooley wrote a critical article this week in the Weekly Standard magazine about the planned event that has circulated widely on conservative Web sites.

I would agree, except here’s my question: why do Conservatives feel that it’s perfectly acceptable to use this event for their own political purposes, but not so much for those who simply want their children included in an event funded by taxpayer dollars and using public facilities (the White House grounds)?

Since the article appeared Tuesday, Chrisler said Family Pride has received “a flood of hate-filled, venomous messages telling us that our families aren’t welcome.”

Yep, you just gotta love that Christian charity, eh? Sounds like more than a few folks could stand some remedial Sunday School classes….
