A star is born: Owens signs with the Cowboys
“It’s more than his word, it’s about logic,” Jones said. “This is an opportunity for him to basically put it all together and come in here and have a very positive experience. … Whoever got him after those two experiences was going to get a more knowledgeable and educated player.”
It exists on the same level of certainty as death and taxes: the lunacy that possesses the owner of a professional sports franchise to demonstrate that he has more money than sense. After flaming all of his bridges in San Francisco and Philadelphia, we’re now supposed to believe that Terrell Owens has seen the error of his ways and realized what a comlete and total DUMB@$$ he has been? Yeah, right….
Of course, this diatribe may be colored ever so slightly by my all-consuming hatred for the evil, blood-sucking Dallas Cowboys (1975 NFC Championship game…Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson…shut up…don’t go there….). Personally, I hope that Owens sets up shop at Valley Ranch and then reverts to type. It would be quite entertaining and highly satisfying to watch the Cowboys implode as the Philadelphia Eagles did last season.
I’m no fan of the self-aggrandizing, look-at-me-throw-my-money-around, three-ring circus that is Jerry Jones, but even I have to scratch my head at this one. And you have to know that George Teague can’t be thrilled, eh?
The bottom line seems to be that one spoiled rich man with more money than sense is handsomely rewarding another spoiled rich man who has demonstrated convincingly over the course of his career that there really IS a capital “I” in team. Come to think of it, perhaps these two DUMB@$$E$ deserve each other….
