Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Lampson event disrupted by DeLay supporters

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #372: Chris Homan

From the “Check your maturity at the door” department comes this tale of angry, intolerant Republicans with too much time on their hands. It seems that Tom DeLay’s staff invited supporters to disrupt Democrat Nick Lampson’s news conference in Sugar Land. By doing so, they merely exposed themselves as the intolerant zealots we’ve known them to be over the years. Amazingly, voters in this district have tolerated DeLay’s corrupt, mean-spirited, divisive politics for lo, these many years. In doing so, they have elevated DeLay to the status of a virtual saint- particularly in Fort Bend County, whose devotion to DeLay is legendary.

Among Fort Bend County Republicans, there is a barely-concealed hatred of anything Democratic and the willingness to condone the sort of judgemental, hate-filled theocracy preached by their patron saint. Frankly, Tom DeLay could bugger a goat live on “Fox and Friends” and still count on 60% of the vote here in CD-22. A Democrat will be demonized for merely having the temerity to breathe Republican air, but Tom DeLay gets a free pass, even with the growing mountain of anecdotal and actual evidence piling up against him.

This is where our latest DUMB@$$, Chris Homan, comes in…and fewer troglodytes have been more deserving of this hallowed (dis)honor.

“Let’s give Lampson a parting shot that wrecks his press conference,” read a mass e-mail to supporters by DeLay campaign manager Chris Homan.

Homan said he organized the protest through phone calls and e-mails, but DeLay didn’t know about it.

Mike Malaise, Lampson’s campaign manager, said the protest was a form of intimidation.

Intimidation? Hardly. Somehow, I think Nick Lampson is man enough to stand up to this sort of juvenile lunacy. What this does point up, however, is the sheer scope and depth of Republican depravity in Fort Bend County. It would seem that common human decency is lost on these knucle-dragging troglodytes.

“This incident certainly shows that Tom DeLay continues to try and intimidate the people of this district from speaking out against his unethical activity,” he said.

Homan said today’s protest was a sign of things to come.

“Mr. Lampson is going to have to get used to being confronted about his voting record the next seven months,” he said.

Interesting that they can say that about Lampson with a straight face, while at the same time completely ignoring the true reason their partiarch dropped out of the CD-22 race. It would seem that Republican hypocrisy and propaganda knows no bounds.

Just moments after the news conference began in the main square of DeLay’s hometown, Lampson and his supporters were surrounded by protesters, who held up hand-written signs that read “Liberal Lampson,” “I Stand with Tom DeLay” and “Go Lose Somewhere Else.”

As Lampson tried to tell reporters his point ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ that Gov. Rick Perry should hold a special election on May 13 to replace DeLay ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ he was silenced by chants of “We love Tom. He’s our man” and “Get out of Sugar Land.”

What’s next? “US out of Sugar Land” signs? Fort Bend County seceding from the union (And would that really be such a bad thing?)? All this sort of childishness does is to expose DeLay’s staff and supporters for what they are- a motley collection of immature, spolied, foaming-at-the-mouth zealots incapable of dealing with political reality and tolerant of corruption and venality if it serves their purpose.

I have a simple suggestion for these folks- GROW UP. Might I also recommend some anger management counselling? And while you’re at it, you might want to take a good, long look at the evidence that has piled up against your patron saint. It’s time y’all WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CAT LITTER.

WE DESERVE BETTER. And those of y’all who managed to make jackasses of yourself at Lampson’s news conference need to find a way to channel that anger into something constructive.

And Chris Homan ought to crawl back under the rock from whence he sprang.
