There's still no question about which is the party of corruption

Let’s Throw the Bum Out

I know, I’m a Democrat. And I’m supposed to beat up on Republicans when they break the law - and look the other way, when Democrats break the law. Well, guess what? I’m not that kind of Democrat. Believe it or not, I have no patience with crooks - of either party. Which is why I have no sympathy for, and refuse to defend, Democratic Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana.

OK, let me just get this right out in the open: former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) should be stripped naked, covered in honey, and staked to a fire ant hill in the west Texas sun. As hard as Democrats have worked to get the party back into position to take power should they prevail in November’s midterm elections, Jefferson is single-handedly trying to turn back the clock. He’s a corrupt, clueless, #@$%&)! moron who deserves to be put away…preferably in the same freezer in which he hid his $90,000.

The worst part is that Jefferson wasn’t even intelligent about the way in which he went about taking bribes. Perhaps he figured that he was smarter than everyone else around him, or perhaps he just didn’t care. Whatever the reason, his arrogance is providing Republicans with a “see, you’re no better than us” response that quite frankly misses the point of what Republicans have been doing since 2001. The fact of the matter is that not only is that while Jefferson corrupt, he’s also hopelessly stupid. Nonetheless, that hardly place Democrats on a par with Republicans when it comes to corruption and venality.

Yes, he’s innocent until proven guilty. So’s Tom Delay. And Bob Ney. But the evidence looks mighty bad - against all three of them.

In Jefferson’s case, a Kentucky businessman has pleaded guilty to offering him $400,000 in return for help getting government contracts. Jefferson denies taking the money - yet the FBI found $90,000 in cold cash, hidden away in the freezer of Jefferson’s home - and, get this - in bills marked by the FBI before the businessman handed them to him.

Yeah, and you were wondering how he earned his DUMB@$$ AWARD?

Before we lose all perspective here, let’s keep in mind one important reality, shall we?

[D]oes that mean that Democrats are just as mired as Republicans in wrong-doing?

No way. In the list of politicians now under investigation, the count is now: Republicans 15, Democrats 1.

No doubt which is the party of corruption.

Indeed. While Willliam Jefferson should be doing hard time as someone’s girlfriend, there are 15 Republicans who should be in the same cell block with him, waiting their turn. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Republicans rode into power pledging that things would be different, that they would govern with honesty and integrity. Apparently, Republican honesty and integrity ain’t what it used to be.
