Actually, I could get used to being considered a threat

Sean-Paul Kelley is wondering why the Mainstream Media is suddenly so concerned with Left-wing bloggers. Frankly, so am I. It seems that so many in the media are suddenly caught up in this “Ohmigod, they’re everywhere…and they’re organized!!” frenzy. As if an organized group of Progressives with a keyboard and a mission is something to be frightened of.

(You know what Liberalism leads to, don’t you, Ethel??? COMMUNISM!!! And, yes…maybe even HOMOSEXUALITY!!!!)

What’s even more humorous is the media’s sudden and growing fixation on Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, the driving force behind Daily Kos, arguably the most popular and influential Left-wing weblog out there. Averaging somewhere in the neighborhood of 430,000 hits per day, Daily Kos makes TPRS look like “Amateur Hour”. Hey, no jealousy here; I just want to know how I can do the same thing myself.

Even David Brooks of the New York Times is getting into the act, exalting Zuniga into some sort of Left-wing Threat To Life As We Know It:

They say that the great leaders are gone and politics has become the realm of the small-minded. But in the land of the Lilliputians, the Keyboard Kingpin must be accorded full respect.

The Keyboard Kingpin, aka Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, sits at his computer, fires up his Web site, Daily Kos, and commands his followers, who come across like squadrons of rabid lambs, to unleash their venom on those who stand in the way. And in this way the Kingpin has made himself a mighty force in his own mind, and every knee shall bow.

Yes, it’s true. I don’t make a move without consulting Markos Moulitsas Zuniga When the Dark Lord commands, I must obey. SO let it be written, so let it be done….

TO THE KEYBOARD, M’LORD!!!!

Gimme a break, willya? If there is one thing that Liberal Democrats DO NOT do, it’s march in lockstep- with anyone. That’s generally a quality characteristic of Republicans, who are normally only too willing to be led by the nose and march in ideological lockstep (hey, it’s beats thinking independently, no??).

Markos Moulitsas Zuniga may be an influential member of the Left-wing blogging community. Attracting close to a half-million visitors a day will confer a degree of influence on a person. Does his popularity justify his “bogeyman” status among the mainstream media? Well, they have to write about something, I suppose, but this is becoming rather silly. We’re still mired in a senseless, bloody war in Iraq, and the mainstream media is focusing on a blogger?

Yeah, that makes sense….
