Land-rights advocates try to block Paulson
Despite the overwhelming approval of mainstream Republicans and Wall Street insiders of President Bush’s new treasury secretary pick, there is a budding campaign among conservative land-rights activists to find a senator who will place a hold on the nomination of Henry Paulson. “He’s a lefty Nature Conservancy nut,” says one conservative, outside-the-White House adviser who is part of an effort to lobby western GOP senators to fight the nomination. Of concern to the activists is Paulson’s position as chair of the Nature Conservancy and his move to donate Chilean land owned by Goldman Sachs, which he currently heads, to the organization.
How mindlessly silly, how truly and ridiculously intolerant of those they suspect of insufficient fealty are the nutjobs on the Right wing? How about demanding the equivalent of an ideological loyalty oath signed in blood from Henry Paulson, Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s nominees to be the next Secretary of the Treasury? Jeebus, what a bunch of freakin’ morons, eh?
Paulson’s previous employer, Goldman Sachs, donated land in Chile to the Nature Conservancy, and his wife has donated money to Democrats, including Satan (Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton) her own self. Therefore, Paulson is automatically suspect in the minds of many Red Meat Conservatives who feel betrayed that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader didn’t select a blood-and-guts, kill-them-all-let-God-sort-‘em-out Conservative.
Is it just me, or does these folks need to lighten up a wee bit?
