Croatian fans form human swastika in Italy
Croatia’s victory over World Cup winners Italy has been marred by the racist behaviour of their travelling fans last night. During the warm up match ahead of the EURO 2008 qualification in Livorno, a group of Croatian fans created a human swastika in the stands while making nazi salutes. Photographic and video evidence sent to the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network shows a group of more than 60 fans in the Croatian section of the Armano Picci stadium positioning themselves to form a swastika. The FARE network has sent a report to the FIFA and UEFA disciplinary committees to ask for immediate action.
Yes, you’ve heard this a million and one times, but Georges Santayana was right: Those who do not understand history are condemned to repeat it. The latest proof of this theorem comes to us courtesy of Croatia, and I can vouch personally for the fact that this sort of silliness in not at all uncommon there. For a country that has suffered so much in this century, you’d think that there might be a higher degree of collective ethnic and/or racial sensitivity. Yeah, right….
Of course, if Croats were more sensitive to history, they might also realize that these DUMB@$$E$ are certainly not leaving a good impression of their small country in the minds of civilized people around the world. Then again, if you’re willing tp put your ignorance and intolerance on display like this, I wouldn’t imagine that you much care what anyone else thinks about you.
Surprisingly, though, there is ONE thing Croatian that’s even WORSE than the human swastika, and it’s after the jump…if you dare….
