4 -year-old Accused of Improperly Touching Teacher
BELLMEAD- A four-year-old hugged his teachers aide and was put into in-school suspension, according to the father. But La Vega school administrators have a different story. Damarcus Blackwell’s four-year-old son was lining-up to get on the bus after school last month, when he was accused of rubbing his face in the chest of a female employee. The prinicipal of La Vega Primary School sent a letter to the Blackwells that said the pre-kindergartener demonstrated “inappropriate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment.”
Uh…isn’t this whole thing a little bit bass ackwards?? What’s so unusual about a 4-year-old engaging in behavior that might be considered inappropriate from an adult? Four-year-olds are the very DEFINITION of inappropriate behavior. Even so, how would a four-year-old child know that he was engaging in sexually inappropriate behavior…unless the adults around him were filling his head with that sort of crap?
I have a very difficult time believing that the child in question was knowingly trying to “get some”. No, the real problem in this forgettable scenario is the teacher’s aide who chose to interpret what in all likelihood was the innocent (albeit inappropriate) act of a child with no impulse control as an overtly sexual gesture. Fer chrissakes, people, THE KID’S FOUR YEARS OLD. Can you say “lack of impulse control”??
Of course, given today’s hypersensitivity to inappropriate teacher-student sexual relationships, I can understand that the teacher’s aide might have felt the need to engage in some pre-emptive CYA. Nonetheless, the school’s principal could doubtless have dealt with the “problem” in a manner that wouldn’t have resulted in it escalating in to a borderline DUMB@$$ AWARD-winning scenario.
