Bloody Saturday...and for what??

20 U.S. service members killed in Iraq

25 Americans die in Iraq attacks

Over the next few days, you’ll be hearing glowing (and deserved) tributes to those 25 brave Americans cut down during their prime on Saturday. The local and national media will fall all over themselves lionizing the dead and lauding their sacrifice for freedom…and while that’s by no means a bad thing, it will entirely miss the point and the question that should be asked: WHY? Why did these 25 (as well as the other 3000-plus) have to die? What did they die for? What has been accomplished, what has been gained through their deaths? How does the senseless murder of these 25 brave young Americans protect their country from anything- except perhaps from the self-created terrorist threat that Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s © war in Iraq gave birth to ?

I’m certainly not about to make light of the sacrifice, nor of the pain and suffering their families and loved ones must be enduring. These 25 brave young Americans were volunteers. They chose to enlist, they knew what they were getting themselves into, and they still went willingly. We should all be applauding their selflessness, their devotion, and their bravery. It would be nice to think that their collective sacrifice (along with the 3000+ other Americans who have died in Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader’s catastrf—k) will actually be for a reason, a purpose, something positive and perhaps even larger than themselves. Sadly, any honest observer would have to admit that our sons and daughters have died, and will continue to die, for a cause so thoroughly and criminally mismanaged and poorly thought out that someone really ought to be held criminally liable for it. (NOW CAN WE IMPEACH THE LYING, MURDERING BASTARD IN THE WHITE HOUSE??)

The catastrof—k in Iraq was purchased with deft lies and assiduously-employed propaganda. It’s being paid for with the blood of our sons and daughters…and where has it gotten us? Smack in the middle of a sectarian civil war we neither understand nor can materially impact. It would seem that we did a helluva job winning the war while simultaneously having no clue (and failing to adequately plan for) how we would win the peace. It appears that the war was the easy part.

If I come across as angry, it’s because I am. I’m tired of funerals. I’m tired of tributes to the dead. I’m tired of hearing and reading about children who will never know their fathers, about wives who will never know the joy of growing old with their husbands, about lives sacrificed and wasted in supporting of lies, propaganda, and incompetence. I’m tired of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © not being held accountable by those we elect to represent our interests- yet they saw nothing amiss with impeaching Bill Clinton for getting his helmet polished in the Oval Office by a zaftig intern.

It may be trite, but it’s true: no one died when Clinton lied. When do we begin holding Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © responsible for murdering our sons and daughters? Isn’t about time we start demanding accountability?

WE DESERVE BETTER.
