A foreign ministry official described Ambassador Tzuriel Refael’s behaviour as an unprecedented embarrassment. The incident, which happened two weeks ago, has renewed calls for a radical overhaul of the way Israel appoints and promotes its diplomats…. Haaretz website reports that police found Mr Refael in the Israeli embassy compound where he had been found bound, gagged and naked apart from sado-masochistic sex accessories.
It’s been said that the job of an ambassador is to represent the best of his country in a foreign land. Hmm…it would appear that Tzuriel Refael didn’t get the memo, because he was apparently too busy displaying his…um…shortcomings.
Refael, instead of doing the job Israel expected him to do, was apparently hanging out here a wee bit too much. Jeez, if he was an American, I’d be thinking that perhaps he was an Evangelical Social Conservative and a Republican. This sort of thing is right up their alley…pun thoroughly intended.
Of course, if Refael were an American and a Republican, he wouldn’t have been posted to some Third World banana republic. Nosirree, he’d no doubt be comfortably ensconced in the White House Office of Faith-based Initiatives, where he’d secretly be plotting strategy with Ted Haggard and Mark Foley.
In Refael’s defense, I’m sure he was having fun, and there’s GOT to be one HELL of a story behind all of this. Once upon a time, there was a DUMB@$$ in a land far, far away…. :0)
