Airline sacrifices goats to appease sky god
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Officials at Nepal’s state-run airline have sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the carrier said Tuesday. Nepal Airlines, which has two Boeing aircraft, has had to suspend some services in recent weeks due the problem. The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal’s only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said…. “The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights,” said Raju K.C., a senior airline official, without explaining what the problem had been.
Suddenly, I’m wondering how long it’s going to be before American airlines will be resorting to this method. In their never-ending effort to cut costs at the expense of decent customer service, sacrificing a goat or two seems oddly appropriate. Hell, airlines already treat their paying customers like livestock, anyway. If any other industry so thoroughly mistreated their customers, some forward-thinking entrepreneur would come up with an alternative and try to do things better. The airline industry knows that the likelihood of that happening to them is about the same as Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader discovering the joys of open-minded Liberalism.
Get back to me when they begin sacrificing CEOs…THEN I’ll get excited.
