Yesterday, Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © bestowed the Medal of Freedom on several deserving recipients…and former Illinois Republican Congressman Henry Hyde, whose sole qualification for this award, as far as I can tell, was that he was a former Illinois Republican Congressman who spent years figuratively fellating The Worst President EVER © . I have no problem with honoring those who accomplishments have made the world a better place, and the other folks on the list of honorees most certainly are. Hyde’s qualifications consist mostly of being a Right-wing philandered, hypocrite, and demagogue who managed to hang onto his seat by hook and by crook for far too long.
The press release announcing the list of Medal of Freedom honorees practically drooled all over Hyde:
Henry J. Hyde has served America with distinction. During his career in the House of Representatives, he was a powerful defender of life and a leading advocate for a strong national defense and for freedom around the world.”
Right; and I suppose he also cleaned his plate, loved his mother, and helped old ladies cross the street. Hyde may have had a long career in the House (I’ll leave the “distinguished” honorific to those so inclined), but I’m not at all sure he did much except bloviate, moralize, and play partisan politics. If that will get you the Medal of Freedom, perhaps I should just go ahead and get in line now so I can beat the rush, eh?
Then again, I had no idea that being a cheat, a liar, and an immoral hypocrite was so highly valued by this sorry excuse for a President. Hmm…must be that whole “Compassionate Conservatism” thing….
