Democrats are better than this...aren't we??

I can understand that memories become fuzzy with the passage of time. Hell, I can barely remember what I did 20 minutes ago, much less on a particular day in the mid-’90s. No matter how understanding I try to be, though, I just simply cannot find a rational explanation (or excuse) for why Hillary Clinton has seen fit to inflate the circumstances of her visit to Tuzla, Bosnia when she was First Lady. A trip that she claims was fraught with danger- complete with sniper fire and a combat landing- has been revealed to be nothing of the sort. There was no running across the tarmac to their cars, nor was there apparently any sniper fire. If there was, that was certainly one brave little eight-year-old girl that greeted her on the tarmac, don’tchathink??

Look, I was on the front lines in Croatia when there actually were snipers up in the hills. Even with that, I can remember standing in a village square with Croatian soldiers as they smoked cigarettes and chatted with me as if they didn’t have a care in the world. I wasn’t too concerned about a sniper picking me off (though I’m not certain what my lack of concern was based on), but I think at that time I was in significantly more peril than Sen. Clinton EVER was in Tuzla.

She’s so desperate to convince Democrats and Democratic superdelegates of her superior “experience” that she’s willing to embellish stories and make up facts out of whole cloth. As much as I hate to say this about a fellow Democrat, she’s a lying sack of dog excrement. Do we really want someone carrying the party banner into the general election who’s demonstrated the willingness to do ANYTHING to win- even lie, cheat, and steal if that’s what it takes?

Yes, Sen. Clinton has put a lot of time, energy, and effort into this campaign. It’s got to be tough watching the nomination slip inexorably from your grasp after being anointed as “inevitable” just a few short months ago, but as the Bard once said, “$#!& happens”. In every contest there is a winner…which conversely means there are losers. Sen. Clinton may have fought the good fight, but she’s becoming increasingly shrill and sounding ever more desperate. Her lies and prevarications are not doing the Democratic Party (or herself) any favors, and indeed, the longer she holds on, the worse the damage becomes.

It’s time for Sen. Clinton to do the right thing. The math, and reality, is against her. If she continues, she may find a way to steal the nomination, but at what cost to her reputation and the party’s prospects in November? Is she really willing to place her own self-aggrandizement above the Democratic Party she so desperately wishes to represent? Even if she were to find a way to win (a slim prospect at best), she would go into the general election as a deeply flawed and vulnerable candidate.

Referencing a new Gallup Poll suggesting 53 percent of Americans don’t view Clinton as trustworthy, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said Clinton would be a “deeply flawed nominee,” and suggested it would be “nearly impossible” for her to win a general election.

“She is not seen as trustworthy by the American people,” Plouffe said. “She has consistently in this campaign engaged in political calculation to mislead voters‚Äö√Ѭ∂.It will nearly be impossible to win a general election if more than half the electorate thinks you’re untrustworthy.

“If Sen. Clinton wants to have a discussion about electability and vetting, we’re happy to have it,” Plouffe also said. “She would be a deeply flawed nominee. There are character issues here that will cause us real problems in the fall.”

Yes, Sen. Clinton could possibly connive her way into winning the battle, but it would be at the ultimate cost of Democrats losing the war. Is she really willing to in effect hand the Presidency to Sen. John McCain? Though Sen. Clinton professes to want to undo the damages of the Reign of Error © , continuing as she has runs the very real risk of handing the White House to Bush Lite © in November.

Democrats deserve better, and it’s time that Sen. Clinton did the right thing by the Democratic Party by withdrawing from the race. Enough with the divisiveness, the lies, and the embellishments. During the past few months, she has increasingly demonstrated that she’s a poor loser and unable to effectively deal with pressure. It’s time that she stepped aside for someone- Sen. Barack Obama- who’s demonstrated that he can handle pressure. ENOUGH.

Say goodbye, Hillary…you’ve worn out your welcome. It’s time to go.
