Today's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us

Those of y’all who are parents with kids looking at colleges might want to pay attention here. While schools will tell you all sorts of stories, and government economic figures will wax rhapsodic over the cost of a college education, there’s one indicator that will tell you what you truly need to know. Yes, the cost of a college education is skyrocketing. How do I know this? It’s simple, really; just look at the price for the staple food of college students- pizza. The price of pizza is skyrocketing due to the increase in the price of flour, which has increased due to the increased price of oil and decreasing supplies of wheat, as well as the increasing diversion of corn to meet the rising demand for ethanol. Farmers who previously grew wheat are switching to corn because the rapidly-increasing demand means that the prices they fetch will be higher, and thus the profit margins more favorable. Poor wheat-growing conditions worldwide in the past years hasn’t helped much, either.

OK, so perhaps this won’t tilt the scales in a Princeton vs. East Bumfuck Community College & Barber School decision, but with the price of pizza heading ever higher, you can bet that the cost of educating Junior is going to be headed in the same direction. It’s been said that an army travels on it’s stomach, and the same could very well be said for college students. Between pizza, beer, tuition, and weed, it’s very likely that the cost of a college education for your brilliant young progeny will be higher than you’d been planning for. Rotsa ruck….
