No, I’m not going to condone or excuse Anthony Weiner. By now, most of America has heard WAY to much about Weiner’s…um…weiner, and I’m growing tired of discussions of politicians thinking with the wrong head. As I’ve already mentioned, male politicians long ago proved themselves all too capable of being in possession of a zipper problem. I’m not here to discuss Weiner’s weiner or his Twitter problem. What will happen will eventually happen, and my opinion on that matters not a whit.
No, what I’m here for is the hypocrisy, the working theory that when Republicans do it, it’s just boys being boys, but when Democrats do it, it’s the worst sort of reprobation and moral failure imaginable. Somehow, a Democratic sex scandal is a threat to the well-being and moral fiber of the Republic…but a Republican sex scandal is no big deal.
Move along, people; no double standard here….

Anthony Weiner has inappropriate online relationships with women (no actual physical sexual contact or laws broken…so far as we currently know)…and HE MUST RESIGN IMMEDIATELY to protect the dignity and sanctity of Congress? Meanwhile, David Vitter solicited, had sex with, and paid prostitutes (all while extolling his superior morality and devotion to the sanctity of marriage)…and he received a standing ovation from Republicans when he came back to the Senate?
WTF???
How Republicans can tolerate (and indeed foster) such rank, unvarnished hypocrisy is something I can’t even begin to wrap my head around. Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, there’s no possible way you can argue that Vitter’s transgressions, egregious though they may be, are worse than Vitter’s. Yet Vitter continues to get a free pass from Republicans and kid-glove treatment from most of the Mainstream Media.
WTF???
My personal feeling is that Weiner should resign…but until and unless Vitter does the same thing, how could any fair and reasonable person continue holding Weiner to a far higher and more stringent standard?
Lose the hypocrisy…and then we’ll talk.
