In 2000, former DUMB@$$ AWARD wienerJohn McCain ran for the Republican Presidential nomination as a moderate. In 2006, he’s running for President as what appears to be a born-again Social Conservative nutjob, complete with full-scale, balls-to-the-wall pandering to the Religious Right.

Moderate McCain said in 1999 that overturning Roe v. Wade would be dangerous for women and that he couldn’t support it. Social Conservative McCain, who in 2006 is actively courting the support of Right-wing religious nutjobs like former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener Rev. Jerry Falwell, appears willing to sacrifice women to his Presidential ambitions. You can do this when you’re a DUMB@$$. Moderate McCain once referred to Falwell as an “agent of intolerance”. Social Conservative McCain is now actively sucking up to Falwell, having recently given the commencement address at Falwell’s Liberty University and hired Liberty’s debate coach as a communications strategy consultant.

McCain’s recent conversion to an anti-abortion activist is yet another example of how he’s positioning himself as the heir apparent to the Religious Right’s support of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader. Who knows what in the Hell McCain actually believes in his heart of hearts; he’s becoming just another two-faced Republican with his finger to the political winds, willing to profess whatever philosophical, idoleological, and/or religious beliefs he determines are necessary in order to win election.

McCain is not the only person to sacrifice his integrity and decency to the siren’s song of Presidential politics. He is, however, perhaps the most obvious and disturbingly brazen example. Apparently, some politicians think that becoming the most powerful person on Earth is worth whatever the cost happens to be. It also means that selling one’s soul is just a cost of doing business.

And to think that I used to consider McCain a hero for his service in Vietnam and his experience in the “Hanoi Hilton“….
