At least Democrats recognize a good deal, eh?

The husband of Michigan US Senator Debbie Stabenow told police detectives he paid a prostitute for sex at a suburban Detroit hotel near Big Beaver in February. Thomas Athans, admitted that he engaged the service of the prostitute after he was questioned as part of a sting investigation. Stabenow said “this is very disturbing and serious, obviously it’s a deeply difficult and personal matter.” While police say he admitted paying $150 for sex, he was neither arrested or charged.

So Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s husband was busted for paying to get his helmet polished near Big Beaver? I know there’s a joke in there just dying to escape…but I’ll leave that to your imagination. Every now and again, I like to pretend that this is a family show. This is one of those times.

I’ve been quick to thoroughly and brutally pillory Republithugs busted for not being able to keep it zipped (at least we do it with girls), so I suppose it would be hypocritical of me to pass this off as just “boys will be boys”. Hey, Democrats can be horndogs every bit as much Republicans, and if you’re breaking the law…well, if you’re going to do the crime, you’d best be prepared for the punishment and embarrassment.

Given this country’s puritanical, highly conflicted view of anything sexual, it stands to reason than Athans would be eligible to become fodder for late-night comedians. Since Athans is not an office holder (his wife is the politician in the family), I’m not at all certain what his sexual predilections/pecadilloes have anything to do with anything. People can and will judge him as some sort of moral reprobate, and perhaps he is; I neither know nor care. Athans holds no elective office, and his predicament is really only of value to those who would hope to damage his wife’s political prospects.

Athans is neither the first nor the last prominent civilian to be caught with a women not his wife, lighter in the wallet and in possession of a pair of knee pads. Think what you will of him, but we should also try to keep in mind that this has NOTHING to do with his wife’s political career. It’s a private matter that should be respected as such.

Move along people…nothing to see here…keep moving….
