I'm confused. How can 2,000,000 blacks get into Washington, DC in 1 day in sub zero temps when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans in 85 degree temps with four days notice?
Since November 4th, I've grown increasingly tired of focusing on politics. We won- America won- and I want to give President Obama time to get settled in and begin kicking ass. Nonetheless, even though change may be swirling all around us, there are still plenty of ignorant, no-account, racist, redneck Republicans all around us...and they're acting as if the world is still their oyster. Even after the struggles of the Civil Rights Era, and even after all the progress we've seemingly made when it comes to race relations, there are still far too many racist dickweeds like Carol Carter in positions of power in the GOP. No, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that there aren't Democrats who didn't get the memo. But why does it seem like Republicans are the ones willing to air out their ignorance and prejudice on a regular basis?
OK, so Carter sent out an "apology" about eight hours after her original example of mental masturbation hit da Interweb. Even then, though, it wasn't like contrition was on the menu. No, she seemed more upset that the people voicing their anger and displeasure weren't being "team players". Yep, nothing like blaming others for their reaction to your mean-spirited lunacy.
Thankfully, at least this story has a positive ending. Carter finally recognized that there was no way she or her reputation was going to recover from swallowing her Keds, so she fell on her sword (sadly, only in a metaphorical sense) and resigned. Good riddance. The body politic will be a far healthier place without Carter spreading her bile.
