Friends don't let female friends vote Republican

It’s always amazing to watch Tina Fey get her dander up, but I think she hits on something particularly important at the Center for Reproductive Rights Inaugural Gala in calling out “grey-faced men with $2 haircuts” who display an unnerving confidence in telling women what does and doesn’t count as rape and what happens to them, or should happen to them, physically and psychologically, when it happens

For reasons I’m evidently not smart or sophisticated enough to understand, Radical Christian males, flying under the Republican banner, believe they- and only they- should decide what women can and cannot do with their bodies. When you can with a straight face call a pregnancy stemming from rape “a gift from God” so something that “God intended,” you’re a monster. Never mind that as a male you will never have to suffer and try to recover from the trauma of being forcibly sexually violated. Never mind that a pregnancy stemming from such a horrible event is something no rational person could want. Never mind that forcing a woman to bear the child of her rapist means that she will always have a connection to her violation and the person responsible for it.

In order for men who think this way to be elected, women have to vote for them. How any woman could in good conscience vote for a religious zealot who views women as vessels and lesser human beings defies rational understanding. Women need to understand the consequences that voting for trolls like Richard Mourdock, Todd Akin, or Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan could potentially hold for them…because when they do, I suspect they’ll vote for the candidate who has their interests in mind.

If there’s a woman of voting age in your life, please discuss this with her…because unless we put a stop to this madness, the Rabid Religious Right will continue working to turn women into second-class citizens and the property of men. Women deserve better.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
